State pages that read business funding by state from public data

Owners: pick your state, read the data, then apply once.

These pages look at business funding by state through public numbers rather than sales copy. Each one reads the latest Census population estimates, BEA output by industry and County Business Patterns counts for one state, then explains which funding structures tend to fit the businesses that state has most of.

What does each state page cover?

Each state page covers the same five things, written for that state alone:

  • the largest cities or towns and how their populations have moved since 2020
  • which industries produce the most output, and which kinds of business are unusually common there
  • which funding structures fit that industry mix, and where they do not
  • a rules note that states no legal rule and names the official state source where one is listed
  • links to the pages for bordering states and to the application

Population figures come from the Census Bureau city and town population totals. Each state page lists the exact tables it reads in its Sources section.

Any state page ends in the same place: one application, read once.

Before you start

What does an advance cost?

Each funder sets its own price and shows it in the offer as a total payback amount. Afterfirst does not set prices. The compare offers guide turns an offer into dollars.

Does applying affect my credit?

Ask how any credit review works before you sign. Each funder states its own process in its offer.

How long does it take?

We do not promise a timeline. Each funder sets its own review time, and a complete file with recent statements draws fewer questions.

I already have an advance. Can I apply?

Yes. List every open position. The desk only sends the file to funders whose box allows that many positions.

Which states have a business funding page so far?

All 50 states and the District of Columbia have a page. Most read incorporated places. New England pages read towns, because towns hold most local government there. Hawaii has no incorporated places, so its page reads counties and census-designated places.

Why the pages avoid city landing pages

A page per city would repeat the same advice with a new place name, and Afterfirst has no branch locations to point to. The state pages name cities only as data, in a table with the Census source beside it. Some needs follow the calendar more than the map: the page for tax preparers shows one industry's year month by month. How the numbers are checked

A script pulls every number from the downloaded Census and BEA files, and a second script checks that each number printed on a state page appears in that data. A page that fails the check is not published.

Differences between state and funder rules

A state page describes the state's economy. Whether a funder will take a file from that state depends on its own buy box. Availability also varies by state, so confirm yours with us before applying.

Data vintages used

Population figures are Census Vintage 2025 estimates for July 1, 2025. Industry output is BEA state GDP for 2025. Establishment counts are County Business Patterns for 2023, the latest year published.

Questions people ask

Does Afterfirst have a local presence in these states?

No. Afterfirst does not claim a location in any state. The state pages describe each state's economy, not a branch.

Can a business apply from any state?

Anyone can submit the application. Availability varies by state, so confirm yours with us before applying.

Do state pages change what an advance costs?

No. Cost is set by each funder's offer and shown as a total repayment. The state pages describe economies, not prices.

Does reading a state page or applying affect credit?

Each funder sets its own steps, whatever the state. Ask how any credit review works before you sign.

When do offers arrive for a file from a large state?

State size does not set the timing. Each funder works at its own pace, and no timing is promised.

Do state pages apply to a business that already has an advance?

Yes. The data describes the whole state, and a business with an open advance can apply from any page. List each open position so the file reaches funders that accept it.
